The Boundary Park Project with R&L Sports Turf Irrigation.

Summer 2023 marked a significant milestone for Boundary Park, the home of Oldham Athletic F.C., as R&L Sports Turf Irrigation, installed a high spec Hunter Industries irrigation system supplied by KAR UK. This upgrade not only elevated the stadium to new heights but also underscored our dedication to delivering unparalleled sports turf management solutions nationwide.

This state-of-the-art irrigation system, a critical component of the park's renovation, required meticulous irrigation solutions to maintain its integrity and playability. Crafted primarily from sand the newly installed stitched hybrid pitch,  challenged us to engineer a solution that was both effective and efficient.

The Boundary Park Stadium - Oldham Athletic

Our approach involved the integration of sixteen Hunter GT885 rotors around the pitch's perimeter, complemented by eight Hunter I-80 sprinklers infield. This configuration ensured comprehensive coverage and hydration of the turf, vital for the pitch's durability and performance. The GT885 rotors, renowned for their precision and ease of maintenance, alongside the I-80 sprinklers blend into the turf, exemplifying aesthetic excellence and functional superiority.

At the heart of the system's is the Hunter ACC2 controller, paired with the innovative Centralus management platform. This combination has changed the way sports turf irrigation is managed, offering remote access and control capabilities that significantly reduce manual labour and enhance responsiveness to changing weather conditions.

Dean Pickering, the Head Groundsman at Oldham A.F.C., lauded the system's swift and efficient watering capabilities, which can complete a full pitch cycle in an astonishing 15 minutes. Such efficiency is critical during match days and in maintaining optimal playing conditions. Furthermore, the reliability of the ROAM remote in ensuring seamless operation, even in a packed stadium, highlights our foresight in anticipating and mitigating potential challenges.

Another vital component of our installation was the integration of a Lowara GHV20 Pump Set and an 18-foot Evenproducts tank, enhancing the system's water efficiency and sustainability. These elements ensure a consistent water supply and optimal storage capacity.

Our work at Boundary Park is a testament to R&L Sports Turf Irrigation's expertise in harnessing cutting-edge technology to meet the unique demands of sports turf management. This project not only sets a new benchmark for irrigation efficiency and turf quality but also showcases our role in transforming sports facilities into state-of-the-art arenas. As we continue to innovate and apply our knowledge to future projects, we remain committed to advancing the field of sports turf irrigation, ensuring that our clients always play on a winning field.
